I gained my UK Private Pilot's Licence in March 2000 at the Britannia School of Flying in Winterhaven [AirNav airport info], Florida. Sadly Britannia has had to close it's doors following the drop in student numbers following the events of 9/11.
Winter Haven's Gilbert Fields airport (ICAO identifier KGIF) can be seen on this map or on this satellite view. The longest runway (the one with the taxiway) is 04/22, the other runway is 11/29.
Sharing part of the field and Lake Jessie is Jack Brown's seaplane base which offers single-and multi-engine seaplane ratings.
Also on the field are Wings and Wheels Florida run by Margaret and Eric who have a C-172 and Warrior-151 for rent.
I returned to Winter Haven in 2002 for some flying including a trip to the Bahamas! Some photo's from that trip.
My next sortie was in March 2004 when I went back to Britannia who had moved to Lakeland Linder Regional airport (ICAO identifier KLAL). [AirNav airport info]. I've still to put up some of the pictures from then!
I've done a little bit of flying in the UK, chiefly at Elstree aerodrome with Firecrest Aviation and as P2 with a very good friend of mine who lives in Cambridge. Elstree is reasonably close for me to get to from Central London and they have Cessna's high-wing aircraft (like this one) which I prefer to fly. My favorite is the 4-seater Cessna 172 Skyhawk.
